20250513 STAND Newsletter – March for Government Transparency!
Dear Friends,
This is it! In just four days, STAND will march on Decatur! At 4pm, we will meet on the square by the John Lewis memorial for a brief rally for government transparency, and then we will march to the post office to mail the letters you all have been writing to your representatives. We will shout, we will sing a little, and we will find some joy in a community dedicated to the pursuit of peace and the dignity of us all.
So how can you help!? First, press pause on reading this email, and find our facebook event here. Like it, and then share it with your friends. STAND members have been diligently working for the past week handing out flyers to local businesses, and if you're so inclined, print a few out and hand them to your neighbors with the yard signs – you know who they are. Sometimes all a person needs to engage is an invitation, and with your help, maybe we’ll have some new faces in the crowd.
Second, write a few more letters! I’ve attached a letter template to this email, so if you have a spare moment, keep those letters coming. I’ve personally got a plan to send one to each of the five representatives on our address lists. Extra is good, and we can show our hospitality by sharing letters to the folks marching alongside who may not have had the opportunity.
Third, make a poster! We’ll be taking photos at the end for a best poster contest to be highlighted on our social media. Let’s inspire hope and action as we walk the streets of Decatur. I’ve attached some ideas if your short on time.
Lastly, come ready to have some fun and bring some life to the streets. Your voice belongs there, so come ready to use it. If you have your STAND armband, wear it! We’ll also be unveiling the reason behind your ‘heart’ selection from the last meeting – I think you're going to like it…
Can’t wait to see you all there. I don’t care if there are ten of us or a hundred, it will be a blast. But let’s make it a hundred – get to it!
