NO KINGS, Just Pops!

On Saturday, at NO KINGS, Just Pops! we asked you to show up and model the community that we want Decatur to be. We could not have anticipated just how well you would do that, and I don’t know that I’ve ever been prouder of the place that I live. We had more than 1,000 people show up to sing, march, protest, hold signs, and consider what it really means to fight for a government BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. You met each other, kept each other safe in the streets, braved a downpour, and showed us all what MLK’s “beloved community” looks like in a moment of joyous unity. Thank you.

You also helped STAND see the work we are here to do. How do we call on the joy and unity we saw on Saturday to build meaningful communities capable of impacting the world around us? How do we build bridges between communities with common cause, but few existing connections? How do we summon the power that we witnessed on Saturday in protecting the dignity of our society’s most vulnerable?

We will spend the coming days and weeks wrestling with those questions, but for now, let’s all take a moment to celebrate what we accomplished. Thank you for your help putting together something truly incredible.
