Dear Friends,
Wow – a lot to announce this week. First, look at our website! Cool, right?! Second, STAND in a Pub is back. We have turned that into a monthly affair, and we’ll look forward to seeing everyone at Marlay House on the 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 5-7pm. We’ve got Claremont Oaks’ second-Saturday rally this coming weekend, August 9th, from 12-12:20pm. Lastly – we are going to have a shift in our general meetings for this month. Instead of our normal meeting towards the end of the month, we will be inviting our community for a meal and a film. We will be screening the powerful documentary “There Is Another Way” on September 6th. An excerpt from the highlights:
In the midst of darkness, we discover who we truly are. There is Another Way tells the story of a group of visionaries who refuse to surrender to violence and injustice, and in doing so show that another path is possible - for them, for us, and for all humanity. As we are all faced with essential questions about who we are, will we choose collective liberation, where the needs, rights, and safety of all are prioritized - in which our humanity comes first, knowing that no one is free until everyone is free.
Sound familiar? See you there.
But today, I want to relate to you what 6 months of hard work looks like. 6 months of leaning in, 6 months of demonstrating on behalf of our neighbors, 6 months of FOIA requests and letter writing. Take a look at the attached flyer – see STAND alongside our allies holding this rally on the 16th? That’s your name. STAND was invited to the table to help organize this event because of your hard work. We have become an organization to be taken seriously in the heart of Decatur, and you should be proud of that. They have turned to us because they know that we care, we’re effective, and we can get the word out to our community. So it’s time to do that.
Please, if you can, help us by promoting and showing up to this event. There will be a press conference prior to the sign waving, so we know the cameras will be rolling. This is an opportunity to show up and show out! So dig out your armband, like and share our event on facebook and nextdoor, let us know you’re coming, and we’ll show Atlanta that there is another way – we’re finding it within STAND.
STANDing with you,
Matt
